EQUAL_GEN: Young people for gender equality

Goal

The project “Equalgen” engages multiple groups nationwide through combined activities of training, empowerment, awareness and art, emphasizing in young people (16-30 years old), as adolescence and the first years of adulthood are a period of formative experiences in terms of beliefs and way of life and gender expression.

Gender-based violence, with its significant social and economic costs, affects the lives of many people, mainly women and LGBTQI+ people. Partners will address issues of inequality, sexist attitudes and behaviours, and gender-based violence through group-specific methodologies.

Project Activities

  • 6 empowerment, self-awareness, capacity building and information workshops on the rights of lgtbqia+ people and women (16-30 years)

  • 22 artistic workshops to raise awareness for equality with the use of contemporary art tools, in Athens (10 workshops) and 3 cities in the region (4 workshops in each city). Exhibition of the produced works of art

  • 12 groups, both online (6 actions) and live in Athens (6 actions), with the participation of up to 15 people, on issues of gender equality, gender roles, gender identities and gender violence. The teams will be formed based on age (16-30 years)

  • 14 collective empowerment and care activities in the context of a group of peers

  • 12 online trainings for educators

  • A digital campaign on gender issues, gender equality and gender-based violence.

  • 2 thematic policy briefs, the first on the prevention of gender-based violence and the second on the needs of teachers to integrate the perspective of gender equality in the pedagogical process

Expected key results:

  • 1520 people totally (educators, young people 16-30), who will be informed or sensitized regarding issues related to human rights (specifically, with issues related to the promotion of gender equality and the prevention against gender-based violence)

  • 600 educators from any level will be trained in order to be able to support students that have experienced gender-based violence, as well as to promote gender equality through educational activities

  • 300,000 people will be reached through a digital awareness campaign on issues of gender, gender equality and gender-based violence

    The Active citizens fund in Greece is supported through a € 13.5 m grant from Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway as part of the EEA Grants 2014 -2021.
